"Yoke" - Anagama-fired ceramic and mixed media
Exhibited in the "Fire Proof" show at the Meredith Gallery, Baltimore.
This sculpture began as a free-formed Anagama-fired ceramic piece during the "XXL Throwing" joint workshop with Baltimore Clayworks and MICA.
The yoke emerged from being "painted with fire" in the single-chamber sloping tunnel kiln fueled by constant stoking with firewood.
I designed and installed the mounting beam specifically to work with the available pedestal in the Meredith Gallery space to enhance the impact of the piece. The yoke appears to be "anchored by" but does not touch the pedestal.
